scalp care — the roots

Hair and scalp change
with age.

—There's a reason why treatments and styling can't address these concerns. Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicine, has had the same answer for thousands of years.

Treat the scalp, not the hair.

This is about the philosophy behind scalp oil, which is not an oil to adorn hair, but one created for the scalp—the root of hair concerns.

1Hair is the crop, scalp is the soil

In Ayurveda, hair is compared to plants. If hair is a crop, the scalp is the soil. Instead of just treating the leaves, you cultivate the soil—the idea that healthy hair comes from a healthy scalp. That's why for thousands of years in India, the core of addressing hair concerns has been "nourishing the scalp with oil."

2Plants chosen by tradition and
validated by modern science

The 20 ingredients in this scalp oil are carefully selected from both traditional formulations and ingredients validated by modern science, blended in an optimal ratio.

The main ingredient in traditional formulations is Indian Bhringaraj. Also known as the "King of Hair," this herb has been a staple in Indian hair oils for thousands of years. Surprisingly, it's also a wild plant, False Daisy, that grows along rice paddies in Japan. Depending on the region, a wild plant can become the king of hair.

The main ingredient validated by modern science is Rosemary. This herb, long a staple in scalp care in Europe, has recently seen a resurgence in global recognition in the field of hair and scalp research, bringing it back into the spotlight.

Another plant supported by both tradition and modern science is Black Cumin Seed Oil (Black Seed / Nigella Sativa). In the Middle East, it has been highly valued since ancient times, with a proverb stating "the seed that cures everything but death." In recent years, it has also garnered attention in the field of scalp and hair research. Here, the wisdom of millennia and modern perspectives converge on the same seed.

In addition, we've incorporated other plants that have drawn interest from modern science, such as Jojoba Seed Oil, known for its structure similar to human sebum, Evening Primrose Oil, which contains rare fatty acids, and Pumpkin Seed Oil, which is gaining attention in the scalp care field.

Thousands of years of tradition and validation by modern science. When seemingly different paths of understanding lead to the same plant, there must be a reason. Combining ingredients validated by modern science with a foundation in traditional formulations—that is the design of this oil.

3How Ayurveda has interpreted
thinning hair and gray hair

In ancient Ayurvedic medical texts, both hair loss (kharitya) and gray hair (palitya) have their own names. For thousands of years, people have worried about the same things.

Ayurveda interprets the mind and body through the balance of three doshas, or constitutional energies.

Dryness

vata / Vata

Heat

pitta / Pitta

Moisture

kapha / Kapha

Hair loss is a disturbance of "dryness" and "heat." When dryness increases, the scalp, like soil, becomes barren and hair thins. When excessive heat—from overwork, excessive consumption of spicy foods or alcohol, stress—is added, the roots weaken.

"But isn't male hair loss due to male hormones?"—Indeed, modern medicine has identified that hormone-derived substances are involved in male pattern baldness (AGA), and treatments have been established. Hair loss requiring medical intervention is in the realm of medicine. What Ayurveda has addressed is the foundational stage before that—looking at the overall lifestyle, such as overwork and shallow sleep, to continuously nourish the scalp so hair can grow.

It's not a matter of one or the other, but rather whether to nourish and prevent, or to treat an already advanced condition. They are different stories.

Gray hair is considered in two ways. Gray hair that appears at a young age is a sign of excessive "heat." The feeling that gray hair increases when worries persist—this personal experience aligns with descriptions from thousands of years ago.

On the other hand, gray hair that appears with age is a natural manifestation of entering a period of "dryness." Instead of rushing to hide it, the Ayurvedic approach is to nourish the scalp and hair, which have become more prone to dryness, with oil.

4Scalp protected by daily care:
Oil, diet, and sleep

The answer to each concern is not a single medicine, but one's entire lifestyle.

Oil

The basic treatment for dryness. Scalp oil massage was a daily habit passed down from parent to child. Incidentally, the origin of the word "shampoo" comes from "champo," which in Hindi means head oil massage. The roots of shampoo were not "washing" but "loosening the scalp with oil."

Diet

To calm accumulated heat, reduce overly spicy foods and alcohol.

Sleep

Applying oil to the scalp at night to loosen it deepens breathing and relaxes the shoulders. Hair care includes the morning after a good night's sleep.

Nourish before washing.

Tonight, apply oil to your dry scalp and take a breath.
Incorporate thousands of years of "oil care time" into your daily life.
